CorePower Magnetics is seeking a talented Design Engineer – Electric Machines to join the CorePower Magnetics team. With the underlying inventions awarded the R&D100 and Carnegie Science Awards in 2019, and a broad portfolio of patents in new soft magnetic materials and advanced manufacturing processes, CorePower Magnetics brings to market a step change in magnetic core performance with up to 10x weight reduction, up to 5x volume reduction, and up to 2x loss reduction of engineered magnetic components without the need for rare earth based permanent magnet materials. CorePower Magnetics’ technology can have broad implications across grid modernization efforts and electric vehicles and aviation through its smaller, lighter, more efficient components.
The Design Engineer – Electric Machines will be responsible for creating and implementing designs for electric motors and generators. Designs will be used as enabling technology for the applications listed above. A specific near-term emphasis will be placed upon design of advanced electric motors using new soft magnetic alloy and manufacturing technologies based upon finite element modeling methods.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with customers and stakeholders throughout design, modeling, and component building processes to effectively meet needs of customer specified applications for electric machines.
With support from commercial and other technical staff, translate requirements from the customer into success criteria and specifications of components and materials used to meet those requirements.
Utilize advanced modeling and simulation techniques to design and optimize components.
Provide guidance to internal engineers, suppliers, and all other stakeholders for component build and manufacturing activities
Analyze results from models and prototypes to make recommendations for design modifications
Continuously improve modeling and design tools used in component design
Track and advise company leadership on external technology developments related to power electronic applications, design tools, and physical testing capabilities.
Manage and execute tasks according to agreed upon deadlines while meeting expectations on quality of work.
Complete technical reports of completed work for internal and external purposes, including white papers and funded work proposals.
Work closely with Design Engineer(s) focused on power electronics to cross train and share best practices.
Perform all other duties as required
Requirements:
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in an engineering field with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar
Minimum 5 years of experience related to the design of electric machines. Additional experience with power electronics design is a plus
High proficiency in using Ansys MotorCAD, Comsol, and other finite element analytic methods
Experience with electrical circuit simulation tools such as PSPICE, Matlab-Simulink, etc.
Familiarity with multi-objective optimization routines and methods
Subject matter expert in electric machines with examples of successful designs used in application
Proven dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Capable of engaging with customers and stakeholders to surface needs and translate into actionable design requirements
Oriented toward action with motivation derived from solving challenging design problems
Capable of coordinating multiple activities at once. Organizes and utilizes time and resources effectively to accomplish goals
