We are seeking a talented Scientist to join our expanding team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing a supportive role for new and existing products, laboratory activities, project management, collaborator networking and liaising, and presentation of research at internal meetings. Principal (Essential) Duties: - Conduct routine laboratory and fieldwork on selected research and development projects and product development efforts
- Conduct experiments, evaluate/interpret data (including statistical analyses), record/verify/replicate results and reports findings
- Align, calibrate, test and maintain equipment
- Maintain equipment logs at required frequencies for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance
- Maintain quality records and perform quality tests, including routine positive and negative controls for appropriate projects
- Present on-going work and research to fellow team members
- Assist in development of procedures and design of experiments
- Assist with technical writing tasks (i.e., reports, proposals, patents, application notes, etc.) and preparation of presentations materials
- Demonstrate high ethical standards in performance of job function
- Support training programs as required. Support, mentor and train others as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance as necessary
- Track and order supplies as needed
- All other duties as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Basic critical thinking, science, writing, accuracy, and complex problem solving
- Proficient in use of personal computers with experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Matlab and/or Mathcad a plus
- Able to operate complex machinery and laboratory instruments, follow detailed instruction with minimal supervision
- Strong work ethic with knowledge of lab safety and quality requirements
- Ability to develop constructive and cooperative relationships with co-workers
- Ability to analyze information and data, evaluate results, and solve problems with careful attention to detail
- Able to work independently, make decisions using rules and guidelines, and follow detailed instructions
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience/Education Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, biology or related field, including laboratory medical technology
- Experience with Raman spectroscopy, VIS/NIR/IR spectroscopy, optical microscopy and/or imaging preferred
- Experience with Matlab and/or Mathcad preferred
- 0-5 years’ experience
- Must have reliable form of transportation to travel between laboratory locations regularly as well as run errands and/or pick up supplies as needed
Working Conditions/Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to: - Travel up to 30% of time representing ChemImage. Frequently travel to offices/labs where the majority of the work will be performed.
- Perform medium work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently
- See and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity; standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and other similar tasks requiring physical activity and repetitive motions
- Operate a computer and other similar office equipment, as well as specialized scientific equipment and related tools
- Must be willing to work with animal and human models under Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals
- Work setting is primarily office-based but conditions may involve limited exposure to chemicals, emitted radiation, fumes, dust, odors, gases and other substances when in a laboratory or field environment. Employees whose work setting may involve these substances will be informed by their managers regarding the nature of these substances and may request PPE as necessary.
